Interior & Exterior backgrounds
Scene One:
This will be the exterior background during the beginning of the animation. It's playful, includes color, and sets the tone and setting for the rest of the animation. The gestural character of my grandfather will take place in the empty space within the center of the composition.
Scene Two:
This composition acts as a transition between the introductory scene and the heavier, final scene. The purpose of this background is to futher convey the time period and mixed media feel within the entire project.
Scene Three:
The heaviest composition in the animation. I wanted this scene to only include polarizing colors like black and white, not only convey the heaviness of the topic but to literally illustrate the racial divisions of the time. The red accent colors are used to express the intense sentiments experienced.
With the use of my grandfather's interview audio detailing his time in rural Mississippi, I intend for the various backgrounds to further explore the meaning of place. Although the place being described isn't necessarily a confined room with actual walls, the time period and atmosphere in which is being described has it's own walls.
